Chapter 2 Analysis

Chapter 2 was the arrival of both George and Lennie on the ranch. At the ranch they meet Candy, an old worker at the ranch, who greets the two upon their arrival. They then meet the boss and at this moment was an awkward moment for the two. George had instructed Lennie not to say anything, to prevent the two from losing their jobs. Lennie had panicked and spoken out of turn.George then had to lie by saying how Lennie was cousin and how Lennie had got kicked in the head by a horse as a child. George and Lennie soon meet Slim, the man they will be working with.

George and Lennie then meet Curley ,an  arrogant man and who also happened to be the boss's son. When they meet Curley he seems to be looking for his wife. He is even seen with a glove filled with Vaseline that he keeps for his wife. George immediately dislikes Curley and instructs Lennie to remain away. Right after the meet Curley they meet his wife, who appears to be looking for Curley. Curley wife's is mostly seen flirting with others men around the ranch. Although many people mistaken her to be one, she is not a whore. She is simply a lonely person, who doesn't really get much attention from her husband since he is often seen going to clubs meeting other woman. George had also instructed Lennie to remain away from her to prevent any trouble with Curley. Carlson was the last person they met. Carlson like to take matter into his own hands as he insisted on killing Candy's old dog who had recently given birth to puppies. He had disliked the old smelly dog of Candy.
