Chapter 3 Analysis

Ready, Set, Action! I gotta say Chapter 3 was filling many exciting and important events, and lots of action. These events have contributed to the story as the rising action had occurred here.
At the beginning of the chapter, we hear a story George was telling Slim, about how Lennie's guardian Aunt Clara had passed and George had been protecting him ever since. We also see Lennie been given a puppy by Slim. We see Carlson, once again, attempting to convince Candy to let him kill his dog and Candy gives in. Carlson shoots the dog at the back of the head with a German Luger. This event was a foreshadow and a parallel of an event that is yet to occur. After this event Candy tells George how he should not of let someone else kill his dog and that he should of done it himself.
We also meet another character in this chapter, Crooks. Crooks was another example of a lonely character as he had been outcast by the others. The others saw him as useless although he was capable of doing many things. Later on we see a true idealist in the chapter, as George discusses the dream of owning their own farm with Candy. Candy even agrees to contribute to the dream by giving them money. We now see Candy as an idealist as he thinks of future idealistically.
At the end of the chapter we see the rising action. While all the guys are in the bunkhouse. Curley enters once again looking for his wife. Curley who is raging looks for someone to pick on, so he then began attacking the innocent Lennie on his bed while he is dreaming of the farm . George then commands Lennie to fight back. Lennie grabbed Curley's hand and broke it. George then comforts the fearful Lennie. This event was the beginning of Curley's hatred toward Lennie. This was a really exciting chapter after seeing the fight. Other important things had occurred as well, and even more exciting events are just about to occur. The climax is  just around the corner so stay tuned and keep reading fellow bloggers.
