The Characters Analysis

Of Mice and Men tells the story of two men, Lennie and George, who attempt to work at a ranch in order to survive the corrupt world they live in. The two appear as opposites as George is a clever and altruistic guy, while George is a large, powerful man, who is mentally disabled and tends to act childish. Although the two may have opposite personalities they have one thing in common, their both idealists. Lennie and George have large dreams of owning a ranch and calling it their own but they have trouble seeing the problems they're facing. Lennie is an odd character who enjoys petting things but when he does he most likely ends up killing them. He would be confused and lost without the aid of George. In the novel, George may be seen as a leader who shows and leads Lennie whenever he needs guidance. The two make a great team due to the fact their opposites. They help each other in order to survive  a corrupt world.

After arriving to the farm Lennie and George meet Slim, Carlson, Candy, Crooks, Curley and his wife. Most of them appear kind and humble towards the two although they had thought differently of Lennie due to the way he acts, childish and lost. Curley, on the other hand, was rude and mean as he mistreats his others along with his wife. He was the character that had caused the most trouble in the novel. He was hated by others including George. He is cocky and controlling. He even keeps a hand full of vaseline for his lonely and mistreated wife, who is the only female character. I dislike the way Curley acts in the novel but without him there would be no climax and there would be no story.
The other characters act different from each other as they all have different personalities. Crooks, was a character was discriminated and made an outcast due to his colour. He is lonely and mistreated by everyone. Candy was an old worker on the ranch that also appeared as an idealist as well as he joined Lennie and George's dream of a fantasy farm. Slim is a wise and peaceful man who actually understood George and Lennie's situation. Carlson seems to complain much and takes matters into his own hands. After reading the story i felt as these characters did not contribute as much to the story as George, Lennie, Curley and his wife. These characters seemed mainly as spectators of the entire situation.
The characters in the novel all are interesting and different. Although many of them had seemed unnecessary to the story it was still fun to read about them. The characters, Lennie, George, Curley and his wife were really fascinating characters and I've never met or seen anyone like them. "The Characters" was a small introduction for you guys before we've started the analysis of the story and hope you guys get a better idea of what your about to see. The story analysis is just about to start so stay tuned and keep reading fellow bloggers!
